Written by a soldier at Camp Jackson, South Carolina, in October 29, 1918. From the letter……..Say I see now why I did not get the flu if eating and sleeping keeps it away. There would be no chance at all for me to get it. You see when it started here they give us an extra hour in the morning but did not have taps till 11 P.M. But I seldom ever heard taps as I would go to bed before that time…….There was a lot of mechanics sent to Alabama today as instructors. They took two from our shop, some from the truck drivers, some from the tractors, etc……...

Camp Jackson South Carolina WWI

Written by a soldier at Camp Jackson, South Carolina, in August 1918. From the letter…..I have been on K.P. all day and have just been off long enough to clean up……..It sure seems awful tho that M. Doyle is dead. Alice wrote today that the whole town was feeling so bad about it. You see he was just a boy as he was in Maymis? and Raymond’s class, and was one of the first to enlist……There was a strain load of men just pulled in. They were yelling and one of our fellows said they must be leavin, , another said “naw they’ll yell louder than that when they leave.”……must close soon as the first bugle has blown.
