Written by a sailor serving aboard the USS Cavalier, during WWII, in 1944. From the letter……I felt like kicking myself for waiting so long. Maybe it’s better that way, though, because you would have been on my mind all of these months, and if I had been thinking as strongly during all that time as I have been lately, it would be almost to the “going over the hill” stage. And I’ll admit that even for a cause so lovely, it’s a hell of a big hill from where I look at it. The only other alternative would be to “blow my top”, and just between us, I’m half nuts already, so I guess it’s better all the way round. I thought I had a lot to say when I started, but I guess the things I’m thinking have to be said, not written......
